Scholarships & Financial Aid

We understanding that paying for college can be a stressful topic. All incoming and current animal science students should complete the University of Arkansas general scholarship application and the Bumpers College general application. The scholarship application cycle opens Jan. 1 and closes Feb. 15 of every year. Please visit the Bumpers College Scholarship page to learn more about the application process.  

Every year the Department of Animal Science awards approximately $55,000 to our students. See our departmental scholarships below:

Arkansas Meat Processors and Locker Association Heck Judging Scholarship

Upperclassmen with 2.50 or higher cumulative grade point average

Animal Science General Scholarship

no additional criteria

Arkansas Cattleman’s Association Endowed Scholarship

Interest in pursuing a career in the beef industry; preference to involvement in the Cattlemen’s Association, and to those with a record of participation in FFA or 4-H

Arkansas Farm Credit State Federation Endowed Scholarship

no additional criteria

Beefmasters Endowment

no additional criteria

Brangus Endowed

Preference to students with interest in working in the beef cattle industry

C.J. Brown Endowment

Upperclassmen with a 3.00 or higher cumulative grade point average; preference to those with interest in beef cattle breeding and production

Alton Campbell Memorial

Preference to financial need; preference to those with 2.50 or higher cumulative grade point average

William and Frances Dorough Scholarship in Animal Science

Preference to financial need

Robert Felsman Scholarship

Primary interest in beef cattle and swine with desire to continue work in the field of animal science; 3.00 or higher cumulative grade point average; financial need

Dr. Richard and Ann Fulton Endowed Award

Upperclassmen; preference to pre-veterinary students

Glass-Hostetter Equine Program Service

Upperclassmen enrolled in Equine Program; 3.00 or higher cumulative grade point average; preference to competency with horses, especially DEKEP horses; preference to participation in equine internships and/or farm experience.  Active participation in DEKEP program required.

Hudson Family Endowed Scholarship

Preference to livestock judging team participants

Florence E. King Scholarships in Equine Studies

U.S. citizen; genuine interest in equine industry career; renewable for up to four years of undergraduate study – recipients must successfully complete 30 credit hours per year and maintain 3.00 or higher cumulative grade point average to remain eligible

Carl B. and Florence E. King Pre-Veterinarian Scholarship

Financial need; Arkansas resident; Must be single; renewable for up to four years of undergraduate study – recipients must successfully complete at least 15 hours/semester for a total of 30 credit hours per academic year and maintain 3.00 or higher cumulative grade point average to remain eligible

Mr. and Mrs. Paul K. Lewis, Sr. Scholarship

3.00 or higher cumulative grade point average; incoming freshmen must have 24 or higher composite ACT score

Danny Metz Scholarship

Sophomore or junior with financial need; leadership; strong academic background

Alvin L. Neumann Animal and Poultry Scholarship

Upperclassmen; financial need

Arkansas resident; junior or senior; 3.00 or higher cumulative grade point average; financial need; preference to interest in swine production

PLR Farms/J.O. and Marie Parker Endowed Scholarship

Preference to (in no specific order) financial need; residents of Washington County, Arkansas; 4-H and/or FFA membership; involvement in polled hereford/hereford industry

The Ned Purtle Endowed Scholarship

Livestock judging team participant; demonstrated leadership skills supporting the beef industry; preference to transfer students

The Ned Ray Purtle Endowed Animal Science Scholarship

Livestock judging team participant; demonstrated leadership skills supporting the beef industry; preference to transfer students

Odie Talmadge Stallcup Endowed Scholarship

Cumulative grade point average requirements by academic class; may be renewable

Dr. Calvin Willis Endowed Scholarship in Animal Science

2.75 or higher cumulative grade point average; livestock judging team participant; preference to Arkansas resident; preference to leadership skills supporting ruminant industry

 

Gary L. and Gaywyn Golden Family Endowed Scholarship

Upperclassmen: 2.75 or higher cumulative grade point average; preference to students who graduated from Arkansas high schools near Sevier, Howard, Pike, Nevada or Hempstead counties

Dr. Nancy Jack Award for Equine Excellence

Senior equine concentration student with highest cumulative grade point average at the end of fall semester
